John Piper is the Pastor for Preaching at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He grew up in Greenville, South Carolina, and studied at Wheaton College, where he first sensed God's call to enter the ministry. He went on to earn degrees from Fuller Theological Seminary (B.D.) and the University of Munich (D.theol.). For six years he taught Biblical Studies at Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota, and in 1980 accepted the call to serve as pastor at Bethlehem. John is the author of more than 30 books and more than 25 years of his preaching and teaching is available free at desiringGod.org. John and his wife, Noel, have four sons, one daughter, and an increasing number of grandchildren.

As to his Eschatology:
You would have to check with the Father of Corrupt Theology.
He'd probably know off-hand.
We'll flag him down on this side and see what he can come up with.

He is a historical pre-millenialist. He believes that some prohpecy in the NT has been fulfilled, but the second coming, millenium, and new heavens/earth have yet to occur.

I would agree with him... I'm just not sure where I place the millenium... I'm slightly inclined to believe that we are currently in a figurative millenium.... but i'm open to the possibility that it has not occured yet...

figurative millenium?

r you an A-mill?

you mean, like: "in you heart" kind of figurative?

It is a tough question... I just have a lot of issues that creep up if i believe in an actual physical millenium... I just cant seem to place it. There are also discrepencies between the millenium described in Isaiah and the one described in Revelation...

I believe in the Second Coming (future) and the new Heavens & Earth (future).

Maybe I'll write something on it... It would be interesting...

what about the second coming? is that figurative or literal?

what about the new heavens and earth, figurative or literal?

Ember, if it isn't literal, what are we here doing and waiting for?

"I just have a lot of issues that creep up if i believe in an ACTUAL PHYSICAL MILLENIUM."

i was saying it sacrastically.he doesnt blve in a phsyical millenium, but he wants to believe in a literal return? sounds contradictory to me.

whats more -- some people do blve that it is a spiritual return. that we are not 'waiting' for anything that we are to do the work of Yeshua here without ceasing -- that this IS the new earth

Oh...I agree, I've always wondered where you draw the line between physical, literal, pictoral, etc.
As far as THIS being the new earth, I DO know someone who believes this, but wonder why all Christians don't know that we are living in the New Earth, if that be the case (I would think we would know that; it is a pretty big deal!). :-)
